MCS GREEN ROCKET BASKETBALL IS A FEW WEEKS AWAY OF STEPPING INTO THE MIKE ROBERTS ERA OF BEING THE VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH. COACH ROBERTS HAS COACHED VARSITY SOCCER, VARSITY BASEBALL & JV BASKETBALL. THE RECORDS HAVE BEEN ANYTHING BUT STELLAR SO THIS YEAR THEY HAVE APPOINTED HIM JV & VARSITY BASKETBALL COACH. I ASSUME THAT THIS HAS TAKEN PLACE BECAUSE NOBODY ELSE APPLIED FOR THE JV JOB. AFTER ALL THAT IS 4HRS OF PRACTICE A DAY AND AS WE KNOW SPREADING TIME THIN IS AN MCS SPECIALTY CARRIED ON FROM LAST YEARS COACHING DEBACLE. PLUS EACH TEAM COULD USE THE FULL ATTENTION OF EACH OTHERS RESPECTIVE COACH, BOTH BEING MIKE ROBERTS. THIS IS ALOT OF ADDED PRESSURE FOR ONE COACH. AFTER ALL WHO WILL BE IN THE LOCKER ROOM PREPARING THE VARSITY WITH THE JV GAME STILL GOING ON? WILL OUR VARSITY TEAM THATS WON 3 GAMES IN TWO YEARS BE THAT GOOD THAT IT CAN AFFORD EVEN THAT LACK OF ATTENTION. AFTER ALL SHOULDN'T EACH TEAM GET 100% OF THEIR COACH'S ATTENTION NOT 50%? NOT AT GOOD OLD MCS, WHERE THE ATHLETIC COUNCIL HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE HALL OF FAME. ITS JUST ONE MORE JOKE!

Any predictions on the play-offs and World Series?

I like the Yankees and the Red Sox in the ALCS (I hope) with the Yankees continuing the sweep (I hope).

In the National League I think the Cardinals pitching will get them to the Series.

I like the Yankees in 5 or 6 in the World Series.

How much longer before the rural school districts start merging or busing the kids to other, larger districts?

There will come a point when it will be cheaper to pay tuition rather than pay for the salaries and maintenance of facilities.

For example, Colton-Pierrepont (sp), former Class D NY State Soccer Champs, will start paying tuition to Potsdam when total district enrollment falls below 300. My source is reliable and highly placed but not confirmed.

This trend of shrinking enrollment has been happening in every district in St. Lawrence County since the 1970s. This is public information.

It really is a damned shame because the school district jobs are the ones that attract young families that will have kids and attend the schools. If the districts continue to contract there will be fewer families with fewer kids and it will only serve to reinforce the existing trend.

So what's up with Ogdensburg spending over $60 million on improvements? Their HS building has empty classrooms. EMPTY!!!

Pick up soccer in August

Are any of the High School Jr High kids into pick-up games?

Are the goals be set up at the school? I cannot see them from route 37.

I'll be up with my two boys (13 and 11) from August 6 through 10. We play club soccer in the Albany, NY area. Our school team is classified as AA.

Also, one of my schoolmates will be visiting from Switzerland with his family and they may be into something.

What about any of the surrounding communities?

Anyone know anything about getting a game while we are up there?
